Vertex Pharmaceuticals Announces the Date of its Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2004 Financial Results Conference Call and Webcast

Cambridge, MA, February 2, 2005 -- Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (Nasdaq:VRTX) will announce its fourth quarter and full year 2004 financial results on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 after the financial markets close. The Company will host a conference call at 5:00 p.m. EST. The conference call also will be webcast.

The webcast will be available to all interested parties through Vertex's website, www.vrtx.com, and will be archived on the Company's website until February 23, 2005. To access the webcast, go to the investor center and select 'conference calls.'
