Vertex Pharmaceuticals Announces the Date of its First Quarter 2005 Financial Results Conference Call and Webcast

Cambridge, MA, April 4, 2005 --Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (Nasdaq:VRTX) will announce its first quarter 2005 financial results on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 after the financial markets close. The Company will host a conference call at 5:00 p.m. ET. The conference call also will be webcast.

The webcast will be available to all interested parties through Vertex's website, www.vrtx.com, and will be archived on the Company's website until May 10, 2005. To access the webcast, go to the investor center and select 'conference calls.' To ensure a timely connection, it is recommended that users register at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled webcast.
