(c) Paul Silva, 42, was appointed to the position of Vice President and Corporate Controller (Principal Accounting Officer) of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated on September 29, 2008. Mr. Silva joined us in August 2007 as Senior Director, Accounting Operations. Prior to joining us, he was the Vice President, Internal Reporting at Iron Mountain Incorporated from July 2006 until August 2007 and a consultant to Iron Mountain from April 2005 until July 2006. He was the Finance Director of the Bioscience Technologies Division of Thermo Electron Corporation from 2002 to April 2005. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Assumption College.
