A BROAD DEVELOPMENT PIPELINE
At Vertex, we seek profound change in the treatment of serious diseases. Our team of dedicated scientists is driven by innovation and the opportunity to transform patients' lives through new scientific approaches to highly challenging medical problems.
Today, our primary focus is on the completion of the Phase 3 program with telaprevir for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. We believe telaprevir has the potential to be a dramatic advance in the treatment of this disease and represents the type of innovation that Vertex seeks across its pipeline. In addition to telaprevir, Vertex is also advancing its development efforts for VX-770 and VX-809 in cystic fibrosis (CF), an orphan disease that is emerging as an important element of our business. And as part of our long-term commitment to improving patient care in HCV and CF, we are exploring the potential role of novel combination regimens with the hope of improving the future treatment of these diseases.
Beyond HCV and CF, Vertex has a broad pipeline of additional clinical drug candidates and preclinical projects aimed at fueling our long-term growth.
Vertex is currently conducting proof-of-concept clinical trials of VX-509, an oral, highly specific Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) inhibitor for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, and VX-765, an oral, Caspase-1 inhibitor that aims to inhibit key inflammatory processes leading to epileptic seizures. We also have more than a dozen ongoing preclinical programs aimed at some of the world’s most serious diseases, including cancer, multiple sclerosis, pandemic influenza, Huntington's disease and tuberculosis. Similar to our approach in HCV and CF, our preclinical efforts are highly ambitious and seek to change the way diseases are treated.
At Vertex, innovation is not a corporate maxim; it's our lifeblood.
