A Broad Development Pipeline Innovative science. A commitment to patient needs. These two simple yet provocative assertions drive Vertex´s business and are evidenced within our robust development pipeline. Telaprevir, for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, and VX-770, for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF), are Vertex´s most advanced investigational drug candidates and represent what Vertex strives to achieve across its entire development pipeline: the potential to transform treatment of a major disease to meaningfully benefit patients worldwide. Vertex´s commitment to improve patient care in HCV and CF goes beyond telaprevir and VX-770. Vertex today has a broad portfolio of novel HCV compounds in early development targeting both the HCV protease and polymerase. And in CF, an additional compound known as VX-809 is expected to enter Phase 2a clinical development in mid-2009. Beyond these two major diseases, Vertex is also developing compounds aimed at treating a variety of other major unmet medical needs. Compounds targeting cancer and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis are in early clinical and preclinical development. In addition, our interests in pain, multiple sclerosis, Huntington´s disease and other infectious diseases such as tuberculosis continue to drive discovery efforts in labs around the globe. |
